TWO EXCEPTIONAL discus throwers were amongst those in action at the opening Carmarthen Open Throws meeting of 2017 in Johnstown on Thursday (Apr 27).
Brett Morse (Cardiff AAC) Olympian and multiple British champion along with James Tomlinson (Pembrokeshire Harriers) Great Britain Youth/ Welsh International and currently number 3 in the world, both again showed their true potential ahead of the summer competitions with an early season opener in west Wales.
Watched by a good crowd and performing like great models for future stars, Morse threw out to 58.84m while Tomlinson also went beyond 50m with a best of 55.08m.
The Carmarthen Open Throws meetings have now become a popular annual fixture on the Welsh Athletics calendar and have been going strong for ten years. Organised by the javelin coach Ralph Siggery, they are held on the last Thursday of every month during the summer.
The U13 plus competition gives young and senior athletes from clubs across south Wales and further afield the opportunity to improve on their personal best performances and continues to attract international throwers regularly.
