ST DAVIDS has not been successful in its City of Culture 2021 bid, it has been announced.
Out of the cities shortlisted, Swansea is the only one in Wales. The others being Coventry, Sunderland, Stoke-on-Trent and Paisley.
These five cities will not compete against each other to earn the title of City of Culture.
Pembrokeshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy, Tourism, Leisure and Development, Councillor Paul Miller, said: “As a partnership, we are clearly disappointed that our bid to make St Davids and the Hundred of Dewisland the UK City of Culture 2021 has not been shortlisted.
“However we are determined that the partnerships created as part of the stage I process and the many ideas generated with our communities and other stakeholders will not be lost.
“St Davids is a very special place and we will continue to seek opportunities to showcase St Davids and Pembrokeshire to the world.
“We would like to congratulate the shortlisted cities, in particular Swansea, and we wish them well with their stage 2 bids.”
